4. ShanghaiSingaporeInternationalSchool
The Shanghai Singapore International School (SSIS) was established in 1996 to provide quality international education to children of expatriate families in Shanghai. Privately owned by the Prime Group International and registered in Singapore, its first campus was set up in 1996 at the Sun Island Golf Resort in Shanghai's QingPu District with only 18 students and 9 teachers.
To meet the needs of its expanding enrolment, the school relocated to MinHang Campus at ZhuDi Road in MinHang District in 2001. With its growing recognition from expatriate families, a second campus was set up in XuHui District in 2003 to bring the unique SSIS education one step closer to families residing in the heart of the city, especially those from the PuDong area.
In 2006, SSIS celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a brand new campus building in MinHang, occupying a land area of 64,000m2 and the capacity to accommodate 2500 students approximately.
About the New SSIS MinHang Campus
The Main Teaching Block consists of the office block, Primary and Middle/High School teaching blocks and the Science block.
The ground level consists of the common facilities areas, including the computer labs, music / dance studio, art & design workshop, library and media centre, cafeteria, bookshop/kiosk, school clinic and reception lobby.
Classrooms are located from the 2nd to 4th level. Plans are made to include the swimming pool facilities in our phase three construction.
The Outdoor Sports Zone located next to the main road acts as a buffer from the traffic noise. This Sports Zone has a running track, mini-golf area, golf driving range, fitness area and a standard-size soccer field.
The Indoor area, located between the outdoor sports zone and the school blocks, is a multi-purpose indoor gymnasium. The indoor gymnasium consists of three basketball courts.
Special Features
The Entrance Promenade provides a strong sense of welcome with its unique landscape design. A symbolic tree for the school is planted right in the heart of the promenade to mark milestones of SSIS and the growth of her students.
The Water Court is the "heart" of the Teaching Blocks, serving as a community hub where the amphitheatre becomes the favorite spot for special events and lunch time performances by students every Wednesday.
The Chinese Cultural Centre, named as WAN FANG YUAN in Chinese (万方苑), is another highlight in the campus. Down the lane, you will find a cultural classroom, XUE ER TANG (学而堂) where students attend enriching lessons to master Chinese calligraphy, tea-making and many other interesting Chinese cultural activities. As you peep into another room, QING YIN GE (清音阁) when you hear some melodious music pieces, you will see the SSIS students in action, playing the GU ZHENG (古筝), a Chinese traditional instrument. In SSIS, students are immersed in the Chinese culture through the fun and enriching way.
The SSIS Junior Golf Club is a new highlight in SSIS, officially opened in November 2007. While golf can be more than just a passion for life, the golf course is also widely recognized as an essential business platform for many successful businessmen. As such, golf was introduced as a skill for life for all our students beginning from Primary 5 to Secondary 2 in their physical education programme. To cater to the needs for the programme, the school now has a golf club, two mini-greens and a driving range on campus.
